CHARACTERISTICS

Carbon filtration is excellent at preventing taste and odour problems. However, in certain circumstances you may want to ensure removal of pathogenic organisms such as bacteria and cysts. Pureflo offer the silver impregnated ceramic Sterasyl microfilter from Doulton® for these applications.

It is recommended that if you are using a ceramic filter, that you install it as the second filter in a two stage system — use either a 1 micron carbon (cold water system) or carbon + phosphate (hot water system) as the first filter. Because of the ultra-fine mesh size of the ceramic filter, it is possible to cause it to block with particulates present in the water.
Using a carbon filter as a "pre-filter" will prevent this occurring (it will also remove chlorine taste and odour).
